Today’s Guest: John Scherer
In 1985, Scherer was the primary owner of Data Link Research Service, Inc., that sold personal computers to businesses. When many of John’s customers came back needing help operating their PCs, John decided to produce a set of comprehensive computer videos to teach his customers PCs quickly, easily and inexpensively. In April 1987, his new company, Video Professor, Inc., was born.
Then in 1991, John decided to advertise his computer learning tapes on TV in a new commercial format known as an infomercial. The exposure brought unprecedented popularity to his computer learning product –and to John himself.
From that initial success, John was able to expand his advertising to include regular television commercials, radio, newspaper and magazine ads, and more.
Through careful planning, John was able to become part of a rare group of CEOs who made themselves and their company’s brand image household names. An estimated 90 million people saw John in TV commercials & infomercials each month, on network news programs such as FOX & Friends and ABC’s World News Now, or on various local television news appearances. John even became recognized by popular entertainment shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Jimmy Kimmel Live show.
Today, John innovates TV again as he hosts Products in the News, a program that showcases all of the best products in health, technology, business and more. Reaching over 90 million households monthly, Products in the New is the fast and entertaining way to keep up with the latest in product innovation.
