- Ernie Serrano
Ernie Serrano was born in Mexico Distrito Federal (Mexico City) in 1974, and was raised in the Estado de Mexico (also known to Americans as Mexico City).
He attended bilingual schools (Spanish/English) all his life, hence he’s been bilingual since the age of 4 years old. He graduated from a secondary school in Mexico with a major in finance. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles with just a few weeks of living expenses in his pocket.
Shortly after arriving in California, he landed a part time, temporary job at the largest accounting firm in the world, Arthur Andersen LLP, in 1994, and soon was brought on full time. Over his five years at the firm, Ernie worked his way up the ladder and became a Special Project Manager, managing projects in nine of the firm’s offices, traveling around the country regularly.
In 2000, Ernie changed careers and graduated from the law enforcement academy and became a Deputy Sheriff in Los Angeles County, which is the 2nd local largest law enforcement agency in the country.
While working as a Deputy Sheriff, he began working part time as a mortgage loan officer. Even though Ernie loved originating mortgage loans, he stopped soon thereafter because he was unhappy with the state of the mortgage industry, shortly before the housing market and the economy began to collapse.
Ernie had to retire from his career as a Deputy Sheriff in 2009 after nearly a decade of service due to work-related injuries. He spent the next four years working in various volunteer and community service positions, including as a youth counselor for at-risk teenagers and as a special education teacher aide. His wife was born in Poland, but moved to Chicago at an early age. He moved to the Windy City in early 2013, where he decided to return to the mortgage industry. He joined Guaranteed Rate, one of the nation’s ten largest retail mortgage companies, as a Service Consultant, and was recently promoted to Vice President of Mortgage Lending.

Jillian Sidoti (Our Resident Attorney)

Jillian Sidoti of Trowbridge, Taylor & Sidoti, LLP is the expert on money raising techniques for real estate companies. Afterworking in commercial real estate doing condo conversions for many years, Jillian started a firm that focuses on securities transactional legal matters such as Private Placement Memorandums, SEC compliance, Regulation A filings, Direct Public Offerings, and Intrastate Offerings.
Jillian also spends her time speaking at seminars educating real estate investors on how to legally raise capital for their real estate investment projects including participating in the Five Star Conference with Laura Bush and Condoleeza Rice.
Prior to her legal career, Jillian owned and operated a record label enabling her to tour worldwide with artists, including visits to South Africa, Canada, Europe, and the United States. Using that experience, Jillian has been commissioned to write articles and contracts for many music industry entities.
Currently, Jillian teaches Finance and Accounting for the BS and MBA programs at the University of Redlands, drawing on her experience as Financial Analyst, Controller, and CFO for many companies from manufacturing to real estatedevelopment. Jillian also teaches a Small Business Management class where students are taught the anatomy of a business plan.
